Seagate OneTouch, FireCuda and LaCie external drive trifecta
Seagate has launched three new external drive products in its OneTouch, FireCuda and LaCie product ranges.
The OneTouch brand refers to handheld portable disk drives. Seagate has used its FireCuda brand for gumstick gaming SSDs in the past. LaCie is Seagate’s brand for portable and desktop disk storage products aimed at creative professionals, typically with fast USB-C and Thunderbolt connectivity, and upmarket external design from designers such as Neil Poulton.
These are established brands and Seagate has given them an AI flavor, Lance Ohara, VP for Edge IoT at Seagate, saying: “From AI‑assisted creativity to massive game libraries and family memories, personal data is growing faster and lasting longer. People need storage that’s designed for this new reality — simple to use, built to scale, and ready for what AI brings next.”
OneTouch
This is a consumer market, desktop external 3.5-inch disk drive with a USB-C connection to its host. It has 8, 20 and 24 TB capacity points and gets its electricity from a connected host. Seagate says it has drag-and-drop setup and file transfers, with cross-platform compatibility with Windows and Mac hosts. Customers get a Seagate software Toolkit, auto backup software and Rescue Data Recovery Services.
FireCuda X Vault
A second external disk drive marketed to gamers and video streamers and also using USB-C connectivity for data transfer and drive electricity. Seagate says modern game libraries, captured game play, and streaming content demand large amounts of storage, and this drive can “store even the largest gaming libraries, gameplay and content footage.” Hmm. Despite this the X Vault only has 8 or 20 TB capacity points, lacking the high-end OneTouch’s 24 TB option.
Still, you do get customizable RGB lighting with Windows Dynamic Lighting support.
Seagate says this means it "keeps your vibe in check and syncs to your rig’s energy."
The product comes with backup software, Rescue Data Recovery Services, Xbox on PC certification, and an Xbox Game Pass trial, but no Software Toolkit.
LaCie 8big Pro5
This 8-bay, disk drive system has Thunderbolt 5 connectivity for multi-stream 4K/8K video and AI-driven creative workflows. It provides up to 2800 MBps (RAID 0) or 2,500 MBps (RAID 5) speed. There are 32 TB, 64 TB, 128 TB, 192 TB, and 256 TB capacity options, with hot-swap drives, and 140W power delivery.
The system has four USB-C ports. One Thunderbolt 5 port provides 140W power to the host. Accessories connect to two Thunderbolt 5 hub ports (30W power) and the USB 20 Gbps hub port (15W power). It supports complex studio setups and up to 7.68PB total storage with Mac Studio.
The LaCie 8big product comes wth RAID Manager software, supports hardware RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60, JBOD, and multi-RAID setups, has a 5-year limited warranty and Rescue Data Services. It includes LaCie Toolkit Software for automated data protection and has two-month Adobe Creative Cloud Pro membership.
It comes in a quite large enclosure, being 297.00mm/11.693in long, 232.00mm/9.134in wide, and 215.00mm/8.465in deep. There is a carrying handle on the top to move it around.
